An iPhone that won’t switch on, keeps restarting at the Apple logo or suddenly shows No Service is usually not finished. In most cases the screen and battery are fine and the fault sits on the logic board (motherboard) — often a single chip, a short-circuited capacitor or a cracked solder joint. A general shop will tell you to replace the board or buy a new phone. A chip-level lab can usually find that one faulty part and repair it.
Signs your iPhone has a motherboard fault
- No power at all, even on a known-good charger and battery
- Boot loop — the Apple logo appears and disappears again and again
- “No Service” or “Searching” after a drop, while the SIM works in another phone
- Wi-Fi or Bluetooth switch greyed out
- Face ID, audio, microphone or camera stopped working with no physical damage
- Phone heats up quickly or drains the battery even when switched off
- Water damage — the phone worked for a while and then died
How chip-level diagnosis works
At our Daba Gardens lab we do not guess. The board is opened and checked step by step:
- Current reading on a DC power supply shows whether the board is shorted, partly booting or not drawing current at all.
- Thermal camera and microscope inspection locate the hot component or the corroded area.
- Schematic and board-view tracing tell us which power line, capacitor or IC controls the failed function.
- Repair — replacing the faulty component, reballing an IC, or repairing a broken track or pad.
- Testing — calls, network, Wi-Fi, charging, cameras and Face ID are checked before we hand the phone back.
iPhone X and newer models use a stacked (“sandwich”) logic board. Separating and re-joining the two layers needs the right temperature profile and experience, which is why these repairs are best done by a specialist.
Is my data safe?
Because chip-level repair fixes the original board instead of replacing it, your photos and data usually stay on the phone. That is the biggest advantage over a board swap. Some faults — for example a damaged NAND storage chip — carry more risk, and we tell you clearly before we start.
When is it worth repairing?
We give you a quote after diagnosis, and you decide. Board repair is usually worth it when the phone is a recent model, when your data matters, or when the quote is far below the price of a replacement phone. If a repair is not sensible, we say so honestly.
What to do right now
- Stop charging the phone again and again if it is heating up.
- Do not let unqualified shops open it — extra heat and pressure can damage the board further.
- Send us your model and the problem on WhatsApp for a first opinion.
